Oman has made notable gains in global competitiveness indices, with the Ministry of Economy hosting a media briefing, Towards a Competitive Oman, to discuss recent accomplishments aligned with Oman Vision 2040. The event provided insights into initiatives strengthening Oman’s global standing, including substantial improvements in environmental sustainability, economic freedom, and digital governance.
H.E. Dr. Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Oman’s Minister of Economy, highlighted key achievements, emphasizing that Oman’s advancement in indices such as the Environmental Performance Index—from 149th to 54th place—illustrates a steadfast commitment to sustainability. Similarly, Oman rose 39 positions in the Economic Freedom Index and improved its e-Government Development Index ranking, reflecting enhanced governance and transparency.
The briefing reviewed progress under the 10th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), showcasing strides in regulatory reform, financial sustainability, and digital transformation. Looking forward, Oman is preparing to join the World Bank’s Business Readiness Index in 2025, focusing on fostering private sector growth. As Oman works closely with the World Economic Forum and the World Bank, these improvements underscore its trajectory toward sustainable growth and increased global competitiveness.
