Yet another mall has been announced for Doha, with Barwa Real Estate Group revealing plans for 650 retail outlets.
The QR550 million ($151m) Alaateda would be built near Msheireb Downtown, the group said on Wednesday, according to Gulf Times.
The 155,000sqm project consists of five connected buildings, with individual retail focuses.
It is expected to be completed within 30 months.
Promontorio, an international engineering consulting firm, has been hired to design the mall.
About a dozen new malls already have been opened or are under construction in Doha – a city of less than 800,000 people.
But Barwa acting CEO Ahmad Abdulla Al Abdulla said there still was a need for more retail. “Alaateda comes with ambitions to address the shortage in commercial units in the country,” he said in a statement.
“The project offers an alternative with good rental fees for merchants of medium businesses, and it enjoys a distinctive location on A-Ring Road – Rawdat Al Khail, three minutes away from Msheireb, in Doha downtown. This strategic location will guarantee the best returns for users of the project in the future.”
