According to Deloitte, a management consultancy, the Qatari government – in the run-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030 – intends to spend over $70bn on infrastructure and transport as well as hotels and stadia. Another sports event has been recently added to the calendar of Qatar, as the country was granted the right to host the 17th IAAF World Championships, which will unfold in 2019, boosting the construction sector further. In fact, the Minister of Finance allocated $24bn to key projects, which represents a 16% increase, compared to 2013-14, and translates into Qatar’s largest infrastructure budget to date.
