Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), part of Qatar Foundation, wrapped up its annual medical conference on diabetes complications with a strong focus on self-care, medication adherence, and following prescribed treatment plans to prevent complications.
Centered on the World Diabetes Day theme, “Diabetes and Well-being,” the conference emphasized that neglecting diabetes treatment or a diet suited to diabetes management can lead to serious complications. The conference highlighted the need for diabetes patients to maintain consistent contact with healthcare providers to manage blood sugar levels effectively.
Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq, Executive Director of QDA and Chairperson of the conference, noted that the event was successful, with over 250 specialists, including endocrinologists, neurologists, cardiologists, and nutritionists from across Qatar in attendance. Participants engaged in comprehensive presentations, research, and discussions covering various aspects of diabetes care.
Dr. Al Hamaq detailed key conference topics, including early detection of severe skin infections, American Diabetes Association guidelines for type 2 diabetes management, and insights into childhood diabetes. Sessions also covered the progression of cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and diabetic nephropathy. In addition, the conference introduced healthcare professionals to artificial intelligence applications in medical care, along with the benefits of lifestyle changes like healthy eating and regular exercise for reducing type 2 diabetes risk.
Dr. Mahmoud Ali Zirie, Endocrinologist and Chairperson of the Conference Scientific Committee, underscored the importance of personalized treatment plans based on each patient’s health profile and comorbidities. He also highlighted the conference’s focus on diabetes prevention, obesity reduction, and addressing risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
The conference featured leading diabetes consultants from Hamad Medical Corp and the Primary Health Care Corp, promoting knowledge exchange on the latest treatments and reinforcing the essential role of self-care in diabetes management.
