Qatar Chamber (QC) yesterday hosted a Jordanian trade delegation specialized in woodworking and furniture industries with the aim to review enhancing cooperation between Jordanian and Qatari companies in this field as well as exploring partnerships opportunities and importing transactions between both sides. The delegation was headed by board members of Jordan Chamber of Industry Saad Istatieh.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chairman of Qatari-Jordanian Business Council, Khalifa bin Khamis Mohamed Al Maslmani said that investment relations between both sides witnessed rapid growth during the past few years He noted that there are 13 fully Jordanian companies operating in Qatar with total investment amounted to QR 43m, while there are 1,550 Qatari-Jordanian companies with total capital amounted to QR600m. The trade between both countries grew by 18 percent to QR1.3bn last year.
Representing the Qatari side in the meeting, Al Maslmani also said that Qatar’s economy continued to grow steadily despite the siege, affirming that the siege has stimulated the private sector to establish a lot of new productive projects.
He added that it contributed to developing the country’s industry sector leading to opening more factories especially in food security sector, indicating that there are many investment opportunities in industry in which both side can cooperate.
On his part, Eng. Saad Istatieh underscored the strength of both countries’ relations especially in economy and private sector, affirming that there is a joint desire to develop their trade relations and establishing long term partnerships that serve both brotherly countries’ economies especially in light of the 2022 World Cup projects which generate more opportunities for cooperation between both sides.
He pointed out that the delegation comprised representatives of furniture companies that are participating in Jordanian Industries Expo “Jordan Today” in which more than 100 Jordanian companies participate.
Wood and furniture sector is among the promising sectors in Jordan, he said, calling Qatari businessmen to identify investment opportunities available in the Kingdom especially given the incentives provided by the government for foreign investors.
Chairman of Jordan Furniture Exporters and Manufacturers Association Samer Katibi outlined the role of the association that represents more than 100 companies operating in woodworking and furniture industries.
