The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar, in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), has kicked off its annual seasonal influenza vaccination campaign. Starting from October 1, flu vaccines for the 2024-25 winter season will be offered free of charge at over 80 health facilities, including 31 PHCC centers, HMC outpatient clinics, and various semi-government and private hospitals and clinics across Qatar.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Head of Infectious Diseases at HMC, urged the public to get vaccinated early to protect themselves and their families before the winter season. He emphasized that flu viruses change yearly, and so does the vaccine, making annual vaccination essential to prevent serious illness, hospitalization, or even death.
Dr. Hamad Al Romaihi, Director of Health Protection at the MoPH, reinforced the importance of vaccination, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and healthcare workers. He noted that flu can affect people of all ages and conditions.
Dr. Khalid Hamid Elawad, Manager of Health Protection at PHCC, encouraged the community to get vaccinated as soon as possible, as it takes two weeks for immunity to develop. He reassured that the flu shot is safe and cannot cause the flu, highlighting its long-standing effectiveness and safety record.
