Qatar is leading the increase in the global supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), as its output grew by a compound annual growth rate of 13.1% to 74.8 million tons per year during the 2000-11 period, while its production is forecast to increase by 3% in 2013. Further, Qatar is the the world’s third largest producer of natural gas and accounts for 33.3% of the world’s proven reserves, and is the world’s largest exporter of LNG.
Qatar's gas exports go to 15 countries around the world. Qatar’s gas reserves-to-production ratio is estimated at more than 100 years. Qatar accounted for 30% of global LNG trade and for 28% of LNG export capacity in the world in 2011.
