HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce met yesterday with Roger Valencia, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, and discussed on a host of economic issues of mutual interests.
Discussions touched on issues of common interest to Qatar and Peru as well as efforts to enhance trade and economic relations.
Both sides also discussed a number of agreements to promote bilateral investment relations including an agreement on the mutual promotion and protection of investments, an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a joint ministerial committee for economic, commercial and technical cooperation.
Discussions also touched on several investment opportunities, particularly in the fields of mining and energy as well as hydropower, infrastructure and transportation projects.
The meeting was attended by Alberto Nico, CEO of the Peruvian Private Investment Promotion Agency, Ambassador Gustavo Otero, Director General for Africa and the Middle East at the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador of Peru to Qatar Carlos Velasco.
The Qatari delegation that participated in the meeting included Ali bin Hamad Al Sulaiti, Qatar’s Ambassador to Peru, and Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Director of the Investment Department at Qatar Investment Authority. In 2017, Qatari-Peruvian bilateral trade reached QR95m. In 2013, Qatar and Peru signed an economic, trade and technical cooperation agreement, in addition to an agreement on legal cooperation and a MoU in the field of Education, higher education, scientific research as well as a MoU on mining.
