As the launch of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2012 (COP 18/CMP 8) draws closer, Qatar Sustainability Expo (QSE) has announced its official partners. QSE, which is the only event to run concurrently with the conference, will be supported by several prominent local and international organizations including Mowasalat, Qatar Tourism Authority, Lusail, Qatar Steel, Qatar Foundation, Aramco (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion), Masdar (UAE Pavilion), General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) and Loving Hut USA.
Organized under the patronage of His Excellency Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, president of the UN Climate Change Conference 2012 – COP 18/CMP 8 Doha, QSE will allow leading companies and government organizations to exhibit their sustainability initiatives and connect with more than 15,000 visiting delegates. Arranged by International Fairs and Promotions (IFP), it will be held on the same dates as the COP 18/CMP 8 conference; from 27th November to 7th December 2012.
Among the partners is Lusail Real Estate Development Company, represented by their sustainability partner GORD (Gulf Organization for Research and Development). “As an institution that is working tirelessly to promote environmentally responsible and energy and resource efficient building practices in the region, we are proud to partner with QSE in spreading the message of sustainability and making Qatar a global hub of sustainability,” said Dr. Yousef Mohamed Al Horr, Founder and Chairman of GORD.
Speaking for the pavilion of Saudi Arabia – Caroline Carpentier, Arab Media Relations Manager had this to say: “Under the leadership of the Saudi Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the Pavilion of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will showcase the Kingdom's efforts in fueling its economic development with cleaner, more efficient and environmentally sound technology. Seven major Saudi companies and institutions will present their achievements and projects, inspired by the vision of the country to manage energy for a sustainable future."
Qatar’s own public transport department – Mowasalat – will also be supporting the conference and expo by providing 430 buses for the event. “We are honored to provide transportation for delegates and visitors and exhibiting at QSE,” said Yousef Al Obeidly, Sales Executive, Mowasalat, “and we are very proud of our state-of-the-art green fuel vehicles including hybrid, electric and CNG buses introduced for the first time in Qatar.”
From USA, Loving Hut is partnering with QSE to share the benefits of a plant-based diet. “As the fastest growing international vegan restaurant and fast food franchise with more than 200 outlets worldwide, we aspire to demonstrate that success and sustainability can go hand in hand,” shared Patrick Finnegan, International Communications Director. “We invite one and all to the world of green cuisine!”
Ahmed Al-Ansari, Commercial Division Manager of Qatar Steel stated the company’s position on sustainability: “We believe that sustainable and efficient steel production can be achieved through research and development by progressively addressing issues such as new product development, process improvement and cost reduction with an eye on environmental impact. Our strategic goals and objectives are firmly aligned with Qatar’s National Vision 2030.”
In a statement issued from Abu Dhabi, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change and CEO of Masdar wrote: “UAE is playing an active role in mitigating the effects of climate change through Masdar’s worldwide deployment of renewable energy. We are pleased that COP18/CMP8 and QSE are being held in Qatar, which reflects the importance the GCC is placing on climate change. UAE will play an active role in the upcoming negotiations at Doha, where we look forward to seeing progress across the various tracks.”
