Taking strong bilateral ties to new strategic heights, Qatar and Turkey yesterday signed seven agreements and memorandums of understanding.
Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, co-chaired yesterday the 5th session of the Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee, that took place at the Amiri Diwan.
The meeting dealt with the strong strategic ties in all fields particularly political, trade partnerships, economic, and investment ties. That is in addition to energy affairs, manufacturing, industry, education, media, healthcare, tourism, and projects related to the hosting of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
he two sides also discussed their counter-terrorism efforts and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, particularly in Palestine, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq.
According to the Joint Communique of the 5th session of the Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee, both sides stressed the importance of the unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), especially in light of the challenges surrounding the region, and stressed the need to adhere to the principles of mutual respect and full sovereignty of States and non-interference in their internal affairs and good-neighbourliness, while clarifying that constructive dialogue is the only way to end the current Gulf crisis.
The two sides reaffirmed their common commitment to maintaining and promoting peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and neighboring regions, as well as finding a peaceful resolution to disputes, without resorting to the threat of force or sanctions.
Earlier, HH the Amir and President Erdogan discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields. During the bilateral meeting, they exchanged views on all regional and international developments of common concern. HH the Amir also hosted a Luncheon banquet in honor of President of the Republic of Turkey and his accompanying delegation at the Amiri Diwan.
According to the Joint Communique, the two sides also agreed to hold the sixth session of Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee meetings in the Republic of Turkey in 2020 at a date to be determined through diplomatic channels.
