Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari met with the visiting Senior Vice-President for Middle East and Turkey Affairs at US Chamber of Commerce Khush Choksy and discussed ways of promoting cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) and US Chamber of Commerce in the economic, trade and industry fields.
In addition, the meeting highlighted the opportunities available for increasing trade exchange in light of the potentials and capacities found in the Qatari and US economies, reports QNA.
The meeting also presented the latest developments in the economic, trade, investment and industry relations between both countries and the ways to develop them.
The Minister also presented the available investment opportunities in all sectors, the legislation adopted by the State and initiatives launched to support the private sector which in turn increases the direct foreign investments and attracting more US companies to the Qatari market.
Al Kuwari said the ministry intends to organize a special event for the private sector, part of the US strategic dialogue which will be held in January 2019, in the presence of a number of officials in the government sector and the private sector, to discuss the prospects for trade and investment between the two countries.
The Minister said he looks forward to seeing a prominent presence for US companies at the event, as they can benefit from the opportunity of being in Qatar and discuss the investment opportunities available with Qatari businessmen. In addition to closely learning about state-of-the-art infrastructure for investors and investment opportunities available to them.
Both sides also discussed the mechanisms to support joint investments and stimulate the private sector to establish innovative investment projects in key sectors that will serve the economic trends of Qatar and the US.
They stressed the importance of exchanging visits between businessmen and encouraging cooperation between government agencies and the private sector to serve the common interests of Qatar and the US.
Qatar and the US hold close economic and trade relations which reflect positively on the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, which during the first 10 months of 2018 amounted to approximately QR22bn. The US is the fifth largest trading partner with a 6.23 percent share of Qatar’s trade exchange.
