Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari said yesterday the country’s industrial sector has become one of the key contributors to the economic diversification. The Minister said achieving self-sufficiency is one of Qatar’s key strategies in the period ahead and steps would be taken to promote local products.
Minister Al Kuwari was addressing Qatari businessmen and manufacturers at an event hosted by Qatar Chamber (QC).
Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani attended the meeting along with his First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari and Second Vice-Chairman Rashid bin Hamad Al Athba and a number of board members as well as the Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.
Addressing the event, the Minister underscored the Ministry’s role in facilitating business community and enhancing the private sector role as well as solving all obstacles that might hinder its role in sustainable economic development.
Al Kuwari praised the cooperation between the Ministry and the Chamber in holding meetings with each economic sector with a view to identifying its challenges and obstacles and looking for suitable solutions. He elaborated on the great advance achieved by the country in creating an attractive business environment thanks to the business-friendly legislation and laws.
He stressed the Ministry’s interest in protecting national products and enhancing its competitiveness at local and global levels, noting that protecting the national product is a key priority for the ministry so it has established a new department named “Protecting National Product Department”.
The QC Chairman said that the Chamber welcomes the cooperation with the Ministry. He praised the Minister’s keenness on meeting businessmen to identify their aspirations and suggestions as well as the obstacles facing them. He noted that there would be similar meetings with businessmen and representatives from different sectors to review all related issues and proposals that help develop each sector. Separate meetings with manufacturers and investors in the industrial sector would also be held, he said.
