Doha and suburban localities around the city are set to receive 15 overhead pedestrian walkways.
The Qatari Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) announced the development, said a report by Gulf Times.
The Qatar Cabinet gave its approval, earlier in October, to a draft decision by the MME establishing a committee that will oversee the implementation of different stages of an agreement for building footbridges, according to the report.
A committee has been formed including MME, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the traffic department and Qatar Development Bank.
The committee will be entrusted with following up on the work carried out by the company implementing the project, and ensuring that the construction is progressing within the set timeframe.
The design of the pedestrian flyovers has taken into consideration the technical development in construction.
Services available on the footbridges would include shops, restaurants, ATMs, toilets and other related services.
They will also be equipped with escalators and lifts to benefit the elderly and physically challenged.
