The Qatar Chamber (QC) held a meeting yesterday with a trade delegation headed by the Chairman of the Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association (IDDMIB) Tahsin Öztiryaki. The Qatari side was headed by QC’s First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari.
The meeting reviewed means of strengthening cooperation relations between the Qatari private sector and its Turkish counterpart and encouraging both countries’ businessmen to build commercial partnerships to boost economic ties.
Al Kuwari said there is a wide range of cooperation opportunities between both sides in the metals sector, especially projects related to the hosting of the 2022 World Cup or in the large-scale infrastructure projects.
“This opens the door for Turkish companies to participate with Qatari companies in implementing the services needed for these projects,” he added.
He stressed the Chamber’s support for both sides to further cooperate and tap into the attractive investment climate in both countries and to benefit from the closure between both countries and signed agreements by establishing more alliances and partnerships for the good of both economies.
Al Kuwari also noted that the relationship between Qatar and Turkey is a shining example for other nations to follow, pointing out that both countries enjoyed strong and distinct cooperation relations that include all fields, especially in economic and trade aspects.
Regarding bilateral trade, he said that it grew by 85 percent from $1.3bn in 2017 to $2.4bn last year, noting that there are 130 Qatari companies working in Turkey in various sectors and more than 450 Turkish companies with Qatari partners in sectors of trading, contracting, furniture services, hospitality, and tourism.
Al Kuwari called on the Qatari companies to establish partnerships with the Turkish companies to transfer industries and technologies to Qatar and establish industrial projects that meet the needs of the local market and export the surplus abroad.
For his part, Öztiryaki said that the delegation comprises representatives of 13 companies who are eager to learn about the investment opportunities available in Qatar and identify business partnerships with Qatari counterparts.
He assured that the association is very keen to enhance cooperation with Qatari businessmen and increase exports to Qatar which sees a large development in infrastructure and construction, terming it as a “promising” market for metals.
Oztiryaki added that the association includes 7000 members in 9 sectors specialized in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, pointing out that the total exports of the association companies reached $8.5bn last year.
He also called on Qatari investors and businessmen to identify projects related to metal products in Turkey, affirming that Turkey is a leading country in the construction and contracting sector.
