Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company has been awarded an RO10.9mn contract for the construction of a fishing harbor in the wilayat of Barka by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the company said in a disclosure to the Muscat Securities Market (MSM). Jai K Salvi, vice president of business development and tendering at Galfar, said that construction of the fishing harbor will start within two months and will be completed within 18 months.
He said, "It will be a standard fishing harbor with two breakwaters between 450m-600m length each. The harbor will have a 100m long quay wall for berthing small fishing vessels. The harbor will also house a number of buildings and other facilities, for related functions, which are not included in this contract."
Salvi said that with the Barka fishing harbor project and the recent grid-station contracts from Oman Electricity Transmission Company, the total order book of Galfar has reached around RO730mn.
He also said that the tenders for fishing harbors in Duqm, Musannah and Nubur in Liwa are also likely to be announced soon.
"We recently completed construction of the Seeb fishing harbor. We are eager to participate in these types of projects which add in-country value to the local economy," added Salvi.
