Saudi Arabia has achieved remarkable self-reliance in agricultural production, according to the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) Agriculture and Fisheries Accounts for 2023. Local production supplied:
- 80.6% of vegetables consumed in the Kingdom,
- 63.7% of fruits, and
- 14.8% of cereals.
The total value of domestic crop production reached SAR 38.332 billion ($10.2 billion) in 2023.
Livestock and Fish Production Highlights
- Cattle production covered 67.4% of domestic demand.
- Camel production accounted for 76%, with an average value of SAR 6,000 ($1,600) per head.
- Sheep and goats averaged SAR 1,250 ($333) per head, with goats leading livestock growth at 51.8%.
In fisheries, the Kingdom produced 377,000 tons of fish, with local sources contributing 56.9%, split between marine fishing and aquaculture. Imports made up the remaining 43.1%. The total value of fish production stood at SAR 5.189 billion ($1.4 billion), averaging SAR 24,000 ($6,400) per ton.
