Siemens, the global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering operating in the energy and infrastructure sectors, has signed a $38 million contract with Qatar Steel Company to build a high-voltage substation at its complex in Mesaieed.
The turnkey solution contract is the first one awarded to Siemens Power Transmission by Qatar Steel and, will be executed on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis.
As per the contract, Siemens will supply Qatar Steel with 220/66/33-kV transformers and cables, 66kV-gas insulated switchgear (GIS), 33-kV switchgear, protection system, substation control and monitoring system (SCMS), telecommunication systems, civil engineering and the substation building.
The upgrade will enable Qatar Steel, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Industries Qatar, to replace its old substation that utilizes earlier technology in order to enable efficient and reliable power supply.
The 220/66/33-kilovolt (kV) substation will feature advanced technology and replace an existing facility within 14 months, ensuring more efficient and reliable power supply to the company’s complex at Mesaieed Industrial City.
