Korean construction firm Samsung C&T announced it has been awarded a contract for a 2,500MW combined cycle power plant from Qatar's Umm Al Houl Power, a special purpose company set up to develop the project.
The power plant will be built 15km south of Doha and is due to be completed in June 2018.
The project was developed with Mitsubishi Corporation, the main developer of the project.
2. Impregilo wins $844m contract to build 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium
Italian construction giant Salini Impregilo announced the success of its bid for the $844m contract to build and operate the Al Bayt stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Set for completion in September 2018, the design for the 60,000-seat stadium is inspired by the Bayt Al Sha’ar, the black and white tent traditionally used by Bedouin tribes in Qatar as a symbol of hospitality to travellers, and will be located in the city of Al Khor in the north of Qatar.
It will reside within a 200,000m2 residential community including retail and F&B venues for local residents, and also include tracks around its circumference for use by joggers and cyclists.
3. Sacyr wins $466m design & build Qatar contract
A consortium led by Spanish building company Sacyr won a $466m contract to design and build an urban special economic zone in Ras Bufontas area of Qatar.
The smallest of three planned special economic zones, the hub will span 401ha in the Ras Bufontas area, Spanish media channel expansion.com reported on Tuesday, 13 July, 2015.
The consortium, which also includes Qatar-based UrbaCon Trading & Contracting, was awarded the project by Manateq, an organisation set up by the Qatari government to develop economic zones across the country.
The zone will be built in Ras Bufontas as a warehousing and logistics hub next to Hamad International Airport, east of Al Wakrah Road.
4. Impregilo secures $331m Qatar infrastructure deal
Italy’s Salini Impregilo was awarded a $331m contract by Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) for the construction of primary infrastructures in Al Shamal – a residential area situated 100 km to the north of Doha.
Part of the “Framework Contract for Local Roads and Drainage Programme (LR&DP)”, the Italian firm bid for the project in partnership with Qatar’s Bin Omran, beating three competing consortiums from the Gulf area, Asia and the United States.
In all, it includes roads and infrastructures construction for the Al Zubara district in the western area, the northern area of the central Abu Al Dholouf district and the southern area of Al Shamal, as well as the planning and design for the micro-tunneling of a water system to irrigate various green areas.
5. AGCC wins $229m contract for Emaar’s The Hills
Emaar Properties awarded Al Ghandi and Consolidated Contractors International (AGCC) a contract worth $229m (AED844m) for The Hills project in Dubai.
The Hills consists of four towers, two 15-storey and two 12-storey buildings, overlooking Emirates Golf Club and close to the Jumeirah Lakes Towers district. .
One of the towers will be a hotel operating under its Vida Hotels brand and a second will contain Vida serviced apartments. The other two will offer one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
6. Carillion awarded $124m BP Khazzan deal in Oman
Construction firm Carillion was awarded a contract worth $124m to build an operational base and accommodation complex for BP's Khazzan gas project.
The scope of the contract also includes the construction of a residential complex for 250 staff, and other infrastructure buildings in the Khazzan gas field 350km south-west of Muscat.
Work on the contract is expected to start in September 2015 and is scheduled for completion in mid 2017.
7. DSE wins $59m MEP deal for Kuwait project
UAE contracting firm, Drake & Scull International (DSI) announced that its engineering subsidiary – Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) Kuwait, has secured an MEP development contract worth $59m (AED218m) for a major education institution.
Scheduled to be completed in 2018, the contract brings DSI’s total project awards in 2015 to $408m (AED1.5bn) in value.
Under the terms of the agreement, DSE will undertake construction, operation and maintenance of electrical works including power, light, A.V system, fire alarm system & all low voltage works as well as the supply, installing, testing and commissioning and maintenance of all electrical works.
8. Target awarded $58.7m Quriyyat contract in Oman
The contract for building a pumping station and a water pipeline connecting Oman's planned Quriyyat water desalination plant with Wadi Dayqah has been awarded to Target Engineering Construction Company, it has being speculated.
The developments are expected to supply potable water from the $259.7m (OMR100m) Quriyyat desalination plant to the main grid, local daily Times of Oman reported.
The Quriyyat desalination plant is an independent water project to be built by a consortium led by Singapore's Hyflux.
Target has not received an official confirmation from the project's tender board yet.
9. HLG awarded $7.2m Kizad contract
Dubai's Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has been awarded a contract worth $7.2m (AED263m) for the construction of Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad)'s Area A Secondary Infrastructure (Phase 1B) by Abu Dhabi Ports.
HLG will work on the project in Abu Dhabi, where it operates as Leighton Contracting Abu Dhabi.
The project will commence in July 2015 and is scheduled for completion in March 2017.
10. Zamil Steel wins $5.4m turnkey deal in Jeddah
Zamil Steel Construction Company (ZSCC), a subsidiary of Zamil Industrial Investment Co. (Zamil Industrial), has been awarded a turnkey project contract worth $5.4m (SAR20.5m) for a new water tanks factory project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The project will be developed by Al Zamil Industry, Trade and Transport Company, and comprises numerous components which require completion within limited time periods.
The scope of the contract includes the design, fabrication, supply, and erection of 340 tonnes of pre-engineered steel buildings, as well as the provision of all EPC works, including civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural and finishing works for the new water tanks production facility, ME Steel reported.
