Iraq plans to award a contract to a UAE-based company for the construction of a new civilian airport as part of post-war efforts to modernize its logistics sector, according to Al-Diwaniyah Governor Abbas Al-Zamili.
The airport, located in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate (South-Central Iraq), is set to be awarded in 2025 on an investment basis, Al-Zamili told Al-Sabah newspaper.
“I recently met with representatives of the UAE company to discuss the necessary procedures for the airport’s construction,” he stated.
He added that land has already been allocated for the project, which is expected to boost the governorate’s economy upon completion.
